Tandem passengers must complete the following steps before being authorized to fly with one of our tandem authorized pilots:
- You must be 14 years of age or older.
- You must complete and sign this application to join the Telluride Air Force (2026-27 Membership Year) as a tandem passenger member (free of charge) and specify the name of the tandem pilot with whom you will be flying. Unless you are already an USHPA member and rated pilot, you can use 10000 as your USHPA # and “0” (for student) as your hang gliding (H) or paragliding (P) rating (depending on which wing type you will be a passenger). Your membership will be for 1 day. You must re-join for each subsequent day that you will be flying as a tandem passenger.
- You must complete and sign this Telluride Ski and Golf (TSG) Waiver (2026-27 Membership Year). Again, unless you are already an USHPA member, use 10000 as your USHPA #. You only need to complete this waiver once for each membership year.
- You must join the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (USHPA) and receive at least a student rating (H0/P0) (your tandem pilot can guide you through this).
- You must be provided access to a course of instruction for the wing type on which you will be a passenger (your tandem pilot can provide this).
Tandem pilots must meet these additional tandem requirements in addition to all of our regular requirements to fly:
- You must be a current full member of the Telluride Air Force. Visiting members are not authorized to fly as tandem pilots.
- You must hold an USHPA T2 or T3 rating (unless you are flying a passenger who is P2/H2 or higher, in which case you must hold a T1 or higher tandem rating) with a TFL endorsement (tandem foot launch).
- You must be an active Rogallo member of USHPA. More information on upgrading to or renewing your Rogallo membership can be found here.
- You must have current USHPA certified non-commercial (CNC) status and appear on the list of Current Certified Non-Commercial Instructors. You can apply for CNC status here.
- Your passenger must be a current USHPA member. If they are not already, you must have your passenger complete the in-person application and pay the $6 fee for an USHPA Temporary/Affiliate 10-day membership.
- Your passenger must have at least an USHPA Student rating (H0/P0). If they do not already, you must issue a Student rating to your passenger before flying.
- You must provide your passenger with access to a course of instruction for the wing type on which you will be flying them.
- You must verify that your passenger meets all of the requirements for tandem passengers enumerated above on this page, including completing of their TAF Membership Application and their TSG Waiver.
